Victoria leads the way with electronic learning initiatives
Media Release - Thursday 20 October, 2011
Victoria is leading the way with electronic learning initiatives with the finalists of this year's eLearning Excellence Awards all Victorian based entries.
Finalist entries addressed some of the most pressing issues in society today, such as environmental sustainability education and jobseeker wellbeing.
Omni Asia Pacific, a Melbourne based company, submitted their YouCanWork: Feeling Good initiative, which was designed to provide jobseekers with coping strategies during times of stress and unemployment, to promote emotional wellbeing.
Bright Future Sustainable Living submitted their elearning project Bright Future Portal, which was created to bring environmental sustainability education into classrooms for kindergarten to year 10.
The portal shows real time information on school's energy use, solar power generation and carbon dioxide savings.
The Children's Television Network's submitted their primary teaching resource, Animalia, which was designed around the television series and popular children's book, to teach children about civics and citizenship, belonging and identity.
On the 25th birthday of Animalia this means that a new generation of young people will come to know Animalia in a new age - the digital age.
These are just some of the 18 finalists over six categories, vying for the industry's leading award.
Now in its fourth year, the awards are organised by the eLearning Industry Association of Victoria, whose aim is to position Victoria at the forefront of elearning initiatives in Australia.
"This year we received the more entries than any other year," says Simon Hann, President of eLearning Industry Association of Victoria.
"The elearning awards have certainly grown in stature to become the industry's pre-eminent event which clearly showcases just how innovative Australian providers of elearning approaches can be," says Simon.
The eLearning Excellence Awards recognises excellence and achievement in elearning projects; projects that use technology to help people learn anytime and anywhere.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on November 10th at Leonda by the Yarra, where the Hon. Martin Dixon, Minister for Education, will present the award for the Kindergarten to Year 12 category.
